20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut

With a budget of $180 million, it's little surprise that The Meg ended up with a PG-13 audience rating, because a more violent R-rated blockbuster would've struggled massively to turn a profit.

All the same, during production director Jon Turteltaub attempted to push the violence as far as he possibly could within the scope of a PG-13 shark movie, resulting in one gratuitous death scene that ended up being cut.

The scene in question sees obnoxious billionaire Jack Morris (Rainn Wilson) be devoured by the titular oversized shark, and while in the final cut he's consumed rather swiftly and bloodlessly, Turteltaub originally shot an incredibly macabre, gory gag for his demise.

In the first cut, there was a moment where the camera panned out from Jack's head, where we at first believe him to be alive, before revealing that we're actually looking at his decapitated noggin.

Though Turteltaub loved the shot, he was forced to cut it as it would've pushed the film into R-rated territory.
