CUTLASS ISLAND is picked up!

No, relax. It's not a sequel to CUTTHROAT ISLAND!

Regency have picked up a movie pitch based on the upcoming Tom Wheeler book Cutlass Island about two shipwrecked brothers who discover a lost world of mythological and magical creatures. Wheeler made the pitch himself for a big family fun entertainment feature says The Hollywood Reporter...

The pitch is based on Wheeler's upcoming book of the same name. The story deals with a secret piece of legislation signed by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 called the Unique Lands and Species Act. The brothers uncover the mystery of the historic document and its lost world, Cutlass Island. The fantasy adventure is in the vein of "Harry Potter" and "Jurassic Park," with the boys swearing to protect the islands against those bent on destroying them.
I love these kind of big epic adventure flicks and if it can be as fun and awe inspiring as Harry Potter and Jurassic Park then we can't lose! I keep hearing nothing but bad things about Will Ferrell's adaptation of Land of the Lost, so maybe we should be thankful that we may have a backup fantasy in the works.
