5. It's Another Cliched Christmas Movie

To the surprise of nobody, Daddy's Home 2 is at its core just another cliched, disposable holiday movie to add to the pile. It's the sort of comedy you might watch quarrel-free over Christmas with a gut full of turkey and egg-nog, but over a month removed from the holiday? It just doesn't pass muster.

With its lazy sentimental asides and avalanche of Christmas film tropes, this is a movie thoroughly aware that it's trying to appeal to one of the most undemanding audiences possible, and refusing to do much outside the usual formula.

To some it just might be enough, but to most? Absolutely not.
