Daddy's Home 2 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

3. Mel Gibson Steals The Show

Daddy S Home 2 Mel Gibson
Paramount

To the surprise of roughly nobody, Mel Gibson's role as Dusty's father Kurt is easily the most entertaining and memorable part of the entire movie.

Though Gibson has to hold back due to the pesky PG-13 rating, his politically incorrect, no f***s given character injects some much-needed personality into the lineup, and feels like a thinly-veiled, exaggerated satire of Gibson's own life.

Gibson could easily have coasted through for an easy paycheck, but credit to him, he fully commits himself to the part, casts his dignity aside and generates many of the film's biggest laughs.

Quite what possessed him to appear in the movie is another question altogether, but it's fun to see the guy letting loose and demonstrating so much self-awareness.
