Edward Zwick's new movie
Defiance will be a World War II Polish Resistance epic starring
Daniel Craig. Zwick's previous two movies have been
The Last Samurai and
Blood Diamond. Defiance is the true story of four brothers in Nazi occupied Poland who flee to the Belarussian forest with a band of Jews and join forces with Russian Resistance fighters. I've yet to see Blood Diamond. The Last Samurai was mostly good and I enjoy Zwick's style of film-making and his ability to get the best out of his actors. He is the type of director who trusts the script and trusts the people he hires to stand in front of the camera, and it's with little surprise that most performances in his movies go down well witht he Academy. Daniel Craig has so many big roles in big movies over the next couple of years. Any worry that he might fall into the trap of being seen only as James Bond seems to be a thing of the past. When
Pierce Brosnan was Bond, he never got the roles Craig is getting.
