Danny Boyle's Films Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

In many ways the epitome of Boyle's career, his 2008 drama won eight Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director, and became nothing short of a pop-culture phenomenon.

You needn't have any belief in the idea of fate or destiny to appreciate Boyle's brutal fairytale, a soaring, superbly filmed and highly entertaining testament to the power of life experience, not to mention a heartbreaking look at the abject horror of Indian poverty.

It remains one of the oddest, most left-field Best Picture winners of all time, but always remains within Boyle's wheelhouse, vacillating between sweeping melodrama and more discomforting social realism.

Anthony Dod Mantle's gorgeous cinematography evokes a time and place like almost no other movie in Boyle's back catalogue. Almost.
