Darren Aronofsky's Movies Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Black Swan

Aronofsky's first foray into card-carrying genre filmmaking arguably leans on horror cliches a little too much and is rather obvious as a result, but it's also a gripping, intense horror film all the same, bolstered by Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning central performance.

While clearly a love letter to the earlier works of Roman Polanski, this is also a fascinating look at the dangerous potential of professional obsession, a tragic, terrifying fairytale that disturbs in both its more naturalistic and off-the-wall moments.

The film is Aronofsky's most Oscar-nominated and also most accessible film to date, and while it arguably suffers a little because of the latter, it's still a sharp stab at familiar material.
