The highly anticipated red-band trailer for
David Fincher's adaptation of
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that appropriately carries the tagline "The Feel Bad Movie Of Christmas" (nice) has leaked onto
Youtube and fortunately in decent quality. Watch it while you can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kOFGI0p6SM Scored by
Trent Reznor and
Karen O's epic cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" the trailer, which doesn't particularly carry a plot, looks like it could have been a sequel to
Se7en. Visually, this thing looks dark and reminiscent of that 1995 classic, there's an uneasy edge and graphic suggestion hanging over every scene and indeed we see shots of
Daniel Craig running around almost as clueless as Brad Pitt's detective. There's even a scene where he looks like he is throwing up.
Rooney Mara, that girl who struggled through
A Nightmare on Elm Street and played the one who got away from Mark Zuckerberg in
The Social Network, looks totally transformed here. Fincher took a big gamble putting her into a role that fans of the novel had so taken to
Noomi Rapace's portrayal in the Swedish originals but there's no doubt she's gone all out fiercely.
Fincher knows how to cut a trailer, that much we've always known but the best thing about the director is that he always then delivers from there with a kick-ass movie.
Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Plummer, Goran Visnjic are among the supporting players. The movie, the first of a trilogy that Columbia hope Fincher will direct, opens Dec. 21st.
