DC Extended Universe: Ranking Every Upcoming Project By Anticipation
3. Wonder Woman
Release Date: June 23rd, 2017
Though Batman has proven to be (so far) DC's most bankable commodity, he's just one-third of the Holy Trinity of characters that everyone the world over knows, the other two being Superman and Wonder Woman. Superman's had a number of live-action theatrical films over the years, including receiving the honor of launching the DCEU in 2013, but Wonder Woman has yet to really break free from the small screen.
Fortunately, all that is about to change when Gal Gadot takes on the role in next year's Batman V Superman in advance of appearances in the Justice League films and her own solo movie. Similar to the Internet uproar about Affleck's casting, Gadot, too, has received more than her share of criticism, though she hasn't let it get to her, instead focusing on her excitement for and responsibility to Diana Prince and all of us who have been waiting for a Wonder Woman film.
With production on the solo project gearing up, we've gotten news here and there about it, including the hiring of Patty Jenkins to direct, the casting of Chris Pine as love interest Steve Trevor, rumours that Sean Bean and Eva Green will play villains and reports that it's set during World War I. Though we're still a while out and more news is inevitable once production actually gets underway, the arrival of the character is worth keeping our fingers crossed that Warner Bros. and DC get it right, not just for the fans but to give the world the Wonder Woman movie the excellent, badass warrior herself deserves.
