DC: Ranking Every Upcoming Movie & TV Show By Anticipation

Can the DCEU finally do these characters *justice*, or will TV continue to show them how it's done?

After DC dominated the live action comic book conversation in the 00s, thanks to The Dark Knight Trilogy, the post-Nolan era hasn't quite gone to plan.

After witnessing the rise of Marvel into the world's biggest move franchise, with an ever-expanding shared universe that garners critical acclaim and box office success, Warner Bros. have attempted something similar.

They haven't managed to get the DC Extended Universe right so far, with Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Suicide Squad all performing below expectations (either critically, commercially, or both). For better or worse, however, they're committed to moving forward, with a wealth of movies still to come.

Added to this is their burgeoning TV output, which is where they've had the most success, with fun, exciting shows that could stand as an example for how they might do a shared universe on the big screen.

They may have got plenty wrong so far, but there is also cause for optimism. They have two aces up their sleeves in Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck, who should both wield plenty of influence going forwards, and are making noises that they're ready to learn from their mistakes.

That's good, because with the next four years (at least) mapped out, it'd be nice to be able to look forward to what's to come.

Greg Berlanti TV shows are going to be regular feature on this list, because the man has spent the last four years assembling his own DC comics universe on the small screen.

For his next trick, the man behind Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl will be heading to Fox - meaning it won't be a part of those other series' universe - with Black Lightning.

The network (which already airs Gotham - not on this list as S3 recently started) has ordered a pilot, based on the comics superhero of the same name. The character is Jefferson Pierce, a former Olympian who was born with the power to create and manipulate electromagnetic fields - which he later puts to good use when he becomes Black Lightning. It's still some way off and nothing is really known about it, but Berlanti has a proven track record in this area, so it's one to keep an eye on.
