DCEU: 10 Changes From The Comics That Were Totally Justified
6. Wonder Woman's World War I Setting (Wonder Woman)
There are many versions of Wonder Woman's origin in the comic books and its difficult to pick out a definitive one. A majority of DC Comics fans, however, will tell you her formative years took place during the World War II era.
That's when the original Wonder Woman comics took place, but director Patty Jenkins opted to take Diana Prince further back in time, to the trenches of World War I.
On paper, this sounds like a dramatic shift from the source material, though in reality, it didn't have a huge bearing on the story. But setting Wonder Woman further back in history did help differentiate the movie from Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger and the countless other films that have taken place during this period.
On a side note, removing the United States of America from the movie almost entirely also set it apart from The First Avenger. Having Steve Trevor assigned to British intelligence, despite hailing from the US, was a smart move in this respect.
