3. The Dark Universe Is Being Rewritten

The Dark Universe script is currently going through final rewrites. It's still based on the treatment written by Guillermo Del Toro's, who was attached to the project for a long time, but it's now been rewritten to connect to the wider DCEU.

Additionally, if director Doug Liman is ready, filming could start as early as summer.

To a certain extent, it's an outrage they're even considering messing with Guillermo Del Toro's vision, but you can see the brand-intelligence behind it when they're building the DCEU as a shared universe.

The only worry is that such a connection will make for a major compromise on the tone of the film. Can it really be as fully balls-out supernatural as it needs to be in that universe? Sure, Suicide Squad was more mystical than most will have thought possible, but even that toned down some of the supernatural elements (including Killer Croc's backstory).

So how they'll marry the DCEU's spirit to the existence of Hell and Swamp Thing remains to be seen. It's going to be tricky either way.
