DCEU: Ranking Every Big Fight Scene From Worst To Best

5. Smallville Brawl - Man Of Steel (2013)

Superman Justice League
Warner Bros.

The DCEU franchise-starter was a mixed bag, with its 'realistic' and 'grounded' re-imagining of Superman praised for taking risks but criticized for straying away too far from the spirit of the character and source material.

The action was appropriately grand in nature, given the character's power levels but it was also highly destructive and totally disregarded the threat of collateral damage.

That said, it meshed well with the tone the movie was going for. The fight between Superman and the Kryptonian army was highly destructive but really sold the idea of these beings as unstoppable forces of nature when empowered by the Earth's yellow sun.

Director Zack Snyder forewent his standard slow-mo fight scene approach in favour of a more frenzied, fast-paced style of filming action to highlight the Kryptonians' overwhelming speed and strength.

Highlights from this skirmish include the Kryptonian second-in-command Faora's speed-blitz of human military forces, the handicap battle between Superman and Faora and the behemoth Nam-Ek as well as a slugfest between Superman and Nam-Ek ignoring a hail of bullets coming their way.

The battle set the tone for the movie's action (for better or for worse) and showed the Last Son of Krypton's power in a way never before seen on the big screen.
