Deadpool: 100 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References

54. Colossus' Costume Is An Advancement Of The One Worn In The Last Stand

Deadpool's Colossus is obviously a bit different to the version of the character seen previously on film - there's been an actor change and this one has the comic-faithful Russian accent. Although one element of the previous movies did make it through; he's sporting a similar X-emblasoned outfit to the one seen worn by Piotr Rasputin in The Last Stand (which, it must be added, is different from the print version)

53. Heaven's Gate

When Deadpool compares the X-Men to Heaven's Gate, don't worry - you're not actually going to have to sit through all four hours of Michael Cimino pretentious romp to understand it. It's actually a nod to the Heaven's Gate cult, a religious group that believes the Earth is primed for imminent destruction; so it's both a general attack on mutant exclusivity and a further nod towards the effects of the team's eighties-set run-in with Apocalypse.

52. Deadpool Inadvertently References Kitty Pryde

During his fight with Colossus, Deadpool goes for the gonads, learning the hard way that every part of him turns into metal. Before getting pummelled again, he says that he feels sorry of Colossus' wife, which is a roundabout reference to Shadowcat (although probably not the Ellen Page version).

51. McAvoy Or Stewart?

After their literally crippling fight, Colossus says he's going to take Deadpool the Professor, to which the Merc quips "McAvoy or Stewart?", an obvious nod towards the two men who have made Charles Xavier their own. However, not just acknowledging the two X-Men timelines, this is also a cheeky way to skirt around the uncertainty of when Deadpool is set.

50. A Reference To 127 Hours And The Comics

Deadpool chopping his own arm off while screaming about 127 Hours spoilers? Yup, this is exactly what you expect from a Deadpool movie. And not just the sadistic humour of it all, but the limb loss - there's an awful lot of forced amputation in the comics, and this moment brings that to life in all its R-rated glory.
