Deadpool 2: 10 Reasons Cable Will Be Awesome

9. He Has An Incredibly Dark Past

As if being sent to the future €“ as a child, on your own - because a sci-fi virus was killing you wasn€™t dark enough, Cable€™s backstory doesn€™t get much cheerier after that. In fact, his origin story is so miserable that he€™ll fit right in with Ryan Reynolds€™ Deadpool and Morena Baccarin€™s Vanessa, who enjoy bickering about who had the worst upbringing. When the young Cable €“ real name Nathan Summers €“ arrived in the future, he found himself in a grim dystopia ruled over by Apocalypse. The virus was worsening, and Nathan had to stay in a closed-off €˜incubation crib€™ in order to survive. Apocalypse€™s evil military forces attacked the facility where Nathan was being kept, nearly killing his adoptive mother (actually a clone of his sister, Rachel) in the process. Cable was reunited with his parents, who were brought to the future and placed in new bodies, only to be kidnapped by Ch€™Vayre, a fanatical follower of Apocalypse. Over time, the virus spread and took over the entire left-hand-side of his body. He spent a large chunk of his life trying to overthrow Apocalypse, and when he eventually did, Cable€™s own evil clone Stryfe simply took over the dystopian dictatorship in his stead. Bummer. It€™s unclear how much of this pitch-black origin story will make it into Deadpool 2, but even just implying that all this backstory exists would be enough to enable Cable to slot into Deadpool€™s haunted antihero friendship group perfectly.
