7. ...But He Can Barely Keep Them In Check
At this stage of the article, you could be forgiven for thinking that Cable sounds a bit too good. He has a dark backstory, links to the X-Men and a seriously cool set of superpowers how are audiences meant to relate to a character this awesome? Isnt he a bit too much? Thankfully, to quell worries like this, Ill point out now that Cable is as flawed as he is formidable. A big part of Cables appeal is that hes unable to control his powers. Apocalypses techno-organic virus is eating away at him constantly, and it takes all of Cables concentration to keep his body in check. He continuously commits a lot of his energy and his abilities to holding back the virus, lest it consume him and kill him and doom mankind to perish under the boot of Apocalypse (or whoever else he's fighting that day). In the movie, this constant struggle will be what makes Cable a likeable character. He is a righteous warrior who battles to save all of time from Apocalypse and other evildoers, despite endangering his health in the process. Audiences, surely, could get on-board with a tortured hero like this.
