3. Hell Open Up New Team-Up Possibilities
Due to the team-up-stories-are-very-bankable nature of the comic book industry, Cable is regularly sidetracked from his mission to bring down Apocalypse by ensemble duties. He was first conceived as a leader for the edgy X-Force team, and intended as a man of action entirely unlike Professor X. Cable often thrived in these stories, with his stern edge making him a no-nonsense spearhead to the taskforce. This could make his introduction in Deadpool 2 very important to the larger X-Men franchise. If they get Cable right, Fox could set themselves up with a character capable of playing a Nick Fury-esque role for their in-development X-Force movie. After all, beyond Charles Xavier, they havent set up many characters yet who could lead a team. For one, Deadpool is far too off-the-wall to take charge. And while Wolverine may be up to the job, Hugh Jackman doesnt seem too keen to sign up for more movies. Meanwhile, Jean Grey, Storm and Cyclops have all just been recast as inexperienced youngsters. Cable, then, could be an integral cog in the X-Men franchise going forward. So, the pressure is on for Deadpool 2 to introduce him in a way thats stern but likeable, with enough intrigue left over that fans will want to see more of him. Thankfully, they've got loads of great comic book source material to draw from.
