Deadpool 2: 8 Most Memorable New Characters
3. Firefist
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a lovely film that introduced the world to Julian Dennison - a Kiwi teenager with serious attitude and a talent for comedy. The question on everybody's lips was what he would do next and the answer, as it turns out, was Deadpool 2.
Dennison plays a crucial part in the movie as Russell. He's a youngster with anger issues being held and tortured by Marsan's Headmaster at his school. Going by the mutant name Firefist, he breaks out of the building and is only subdued from unleashing his fire powers by the arrival of Deadpool and his friends. Russell has a turbulent future ahead of him and it is this that brings Cable into the past to stop him.
The success of Firefist is down to Dennison's ability to manage the various different sides of the character, from his youthful naivety to verbally sparring with Deadpool and the rage that unleashes his powers. In the hands of a lesser performer, the character could have been disposable, but Dennison's magnetism is such that every scene leaves the audience waiting for his next appearance. In an ensemble this stacked, that's a significant achievement.
