Played By: Morena Baccarin. Who's Morena Baccarin? She's appeared in a handful of films, but she's definitely most recognizable for her numerous television roles, including her time as Inara on Firefly, Anna on V, Jessica Brody on Homeland, and currently as Leslie Thompkins on Gotham. The footage revealed so far from the film has done a pretty good job of suggesting that the initial relationship between Vanessa and Wade will be sticking pretty close to how it plays out in the comics, with the two falling in love and ultimately breaking apart in the wake of the latter's cancer. If the chemistry between Baccarin and Reynolds sparks on screen, then their dynamic can hopefully lend the film some sort of emotional weight underneath the action and one-liners. How Vanessa plays into the rest of the film is anyone's guess, and whether or not she already has her comic counterpart's shapeshifting abilities at the start or earns them at some point during the narrative is also up in the air. Either way, her presence will be a welcome one in that - if handled right - she can help audiences connect to and sympathize with Wade before and after his transformation into the intentionally annoying Deadpool.
