Depp believes IN THE HAND OF DANTE

Johnny Depp has taken a liking to Nick Tosches' 2002 novel IN THE HAND OF DANTE securing the film rights of the crime book for his company Infinintum Nihil. Depp believes in this property so much, he is using his company's own coin for the first time instead of relying on it's first look deal with Warner Bros. and GK Films. This will be a complete solo producing effort for Depp. IN THE HAND OF DANTE carries parallel storylines involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete his masterwork "The Divine Comedy", and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript. Depp is eyeing the role of Tosches for himself. Those eagle eyed of you will see that Tosches is actually the author of the book who has used himself as the lead protagonist. Variety also say Depp will play Hunter S. Thompson again in March when filming finally begins on THE RUM DIARY, the second time he has played the Gonzo journalist after last decade's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. They also confirm that Bruce Robinson (WITHNAIL & I) is directing. Depp has PUBLIC ENEMIES and ALICE IN WONDERLAND upcoming with big money roles in THE LONE RANGER and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 on the horizon for Disney.
