2. Put McClane Back In New York
McClane has fought baddies in L.A. and New York City and now in Moscow, and while the idea of McClane leaving the States and becoming international was a nice idea to play with, it's time to put McClane back where he belongs, in the Big Apple. We need McClane to be where he feels safe: in New York, retired and with his family reunited, so then when the proverbial hits the fan, we'll get our typically reluctant and annoyed McClane back. And hopefully he'll have better lines then "I'm on vacation" when he's not even on vacation... Which brings up the point that the next Die Hard should probably get an older writer from the franchise to take the reigns. Sure, Skip Woods wrote some pretty great action scenes and put in some nice father/son moments, but we need McClane to be written the way he used to be: hard nosed, broken and struggling to do what he does best; save the day. I recommend Die Hard With A Vengeance screenwriter Jonathan Hansleigh: he turned New York City into Simon's playground and had McClane introduce some nice short cuts to fans of the franchise hoping to one day visit the city. "The fastest way is through the park." The first step for this screenwriter would be putting McClane back in New York - back in his own jungle.
