20 Movies That Weren't Worth The Wait

Considering that 1999's The Blair Witch Project is one of the most profitable films of all time - grossing $248.6 million against an original shooting budget of just $60,000 - it's frankly fascinating that we haven't seen six or seven sequels over the last quarter century.

After the first sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, was hastily released a year after the original and widely panned for, among other things, ditching the found footage gimmick, the movie franchise swiftly hit a brick wall.

That was until 2016, when Blair Witch - a sequel to the original film - was quietly shot and released amid a veil of secrecy.

While it certainly seemed like Adam Wingard (The Guest) had the chops to deliver a fresh entry, Blair Witch ultimately just coasted off the success of the original film, serving up an over-familiar found footage slog that added virtually nothing worthwhile to the existing mythology.

More surprisingly, it also fell short of Lionsgate's lofty box office expectations, and so a follow-up was never produced.

A Blair Witch reboot was announced in 2022, but honestly, it just might be best to leave this IP alone.
