20 Movies That Weren't Worth The Wait
15. The Man Who Killed Don Quixote
In 2018, legendary director Terry Gilliam finally released The Man Who Killed Don Quixote - his adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel Don Quixote, which he had spent almost 30 years trying to get made.
Gilliam actually started shooting a version of the film in 2000 starring Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort, but numerous on-set disasters led to production being shut down, as was so brilliantly captured in the 2002 documentary Lost in La Mancha.
After numerous failed attempts, Gilliam shot the full film in 2017 with Adam Driver starring, and the end result was... fine?
Considering how much of Gilliam's creative energy had been invested in this project, and how tirelessly he fought to make it happen, it was ultimately a tad deflating that the final movie was a relatively mid-tier offering from the filmmaker and far from his more memorable works.
You can certainly point to the film's tight $18.6 million budget as placing a low ceiling on what Gilliam could do, but all in all it's a surprisingly anodyne affair.
