Every child's first introduction of death was probably in the form of Bambi's mother. The realisation of what has just happened is captured in the moment of horror when Bambi realises that his mother is no longer running behind him. Many children can relate to this scene, even if they've gotten lost in a supermarket thinking that they were standing next to their parents but they're actually on their own. Bambi's mother was innocent and she was mercilessly shot by a hunter either for sport, or as that family's next meal. Either way, her death was devastating and Bambi's sense of loss was difficult to watch. It was at this moment that Bambi lost his innocence and had to start depending on himself for survival.
