Tadashi Hamada's death was a complete tragedy because he died trying to protect as many people as possible from the fire. He was a father figure to his younger brother, Hiro, and used his talents in robotics and engineering to benefit the whole of mankind. Baymax, a healthcare robot, reflects the work and life of Tadashi who was kind, caring and approachable. Supporting Hiro at the institution's technological showcase, the building catches fire and Tadashia believes that his beloved professor Callaghan is still inside the building. After getting his brother and his friends out of the building safely, he runs back in to save the professor when the building explodes. Of course, Callaghan is the villain and was the one responsible for the fire. Tadashi's death hits every character hard, especially Hiro and their Aunt who work hard to live a 'normal' daily routine. His death was sudden and dramatic and because of his age and his talents, his potential was wasted.
