Doctor Sleep Trailer Breakdown: 10 Things You Need To See

In the trailer’s final moments, we get glimpses of adult Danny literally returning to the Overlook Hotel and even recreating his father’s iconic pose at the broken bathroom door.

To fans of the Doctor Sleep novel, this undoubtedly came as a huge surprise seeing as in the book, the Overlook has been demolished years prior to the events of the story. The climax of the novel does take place in the location where the Overlook once stood, but it is now the site of True Knot gang’s primary campsite.

But in the film, this is apparently not the case. There’s always the chance it could be a fake-out, like a dream sequence Danny has, but it looks like much more than that. Returning to the Overlook makes both creative and financial sense (audiences love them some nostalgia), seeing as it is a great way to tie back into the defining traits of Kubrick’s film.

Also, that shot of Danny standing in the same position Jack stood in does an excellent job of teasing a potentially darker ending for Danny’s film version and visually illustrating the driving conflict of his entire character arc: the fear of becoming his father.
