Doctor Strange: 10 Villains Mads Mikkelsen Could Be Playing

Many enemies have done battle with Doctor Strange before, but none stand as his arch-nemesis like Dormammu does. This flame-headed being is the immortal ruler of the Dark Dimension. He’s a fierce, incredibly powerful, and hate-filled entity that wants only to invade and conquer. Doctor Strange has repelled him countless times throughout his career and it’s hard to imagine a film without his inclusion.

We already know that his realm, the Dark Dimension, is confirmed to appear in the film, which would be a huge sign pointing to Dormammu’s inclusion. Furthermore, much as it did with Mephisto, the burnt eyes of Mikkelsen’s makeup could easily be explained as Dormammu’s fiery soul literally singing away at his human shell. Lastly, his immense powers make him one of the few truly capable of manipulating reality as the villain does in the trailer.

To start the character off as a human rival to the Ancient One would be a retcon akin to how the Mandarin was handled. Instead, it might make more sense that Mikkelsen’s anonymous sorcerer is instead corrupted by Dormmamu after stumbling upon his existence. He could be infected with his presence, giving him an array of powers, and the agency to use them, making him fit with all of the details we know as well as the expectations we have.
