Doctor Strange 3: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Main Villain

8. Nightmare

Doctor Strange Mephisto
Marvel Comics

Nearly every superhero in the MCU has faced the first villain they encountered in the comics. Captain America battled the Red Skull. Thor has repeatedly feuded with Loki. Captain Marvel thwarted Yon-Rogg (with insulting ease, might I add.)

If this trend keeps up, it seems logical for Doctor Strange to confront his oldest foe, Nightmare. Residing in the Dream Dimension, this literal nightmarish creature was created from the collective psyche of mankind. Powered by humanity's thoughts, the Master of the Subconscious has repeatedly attempted to reshape the world in his own image. Thankfully, Strange has put a stop to him every time. But since Nightmare cannot die so long as humanity exists, the ethereal being will never stop until he has dominion over Earth.

Not only would he be an intimidating villain to introduce into the MCU, the fact that he commands a dream world would be a great way to incorporate some kaleidoscopic imagery. Even though we had trippy visuals in the last two instalments, watching Strange and Nightmare fighting inside the subconscious thoughts of reality has the potential to be the coolest and craziest thing we've ever seen in the franchise.
