Doctor Strange: 8 Things You Need To Know About The Ancient One

4. The Character Could Be Reinvented For The Avengers: Infinity War

With Anthony and Joe Russo filming The Avengers: Infinity War. Part 1 and Part 2 back to back for a 2018 release, Doctor Strange has a great chance to do his part in feeding into Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, there is one key link that connects the Ancient One to these movies: Thanos. Going back a step, during Strange's original run in the issue Doctor Strange Meets...Death! he is pitted against the alluring character of Death as part of the Ancient One's trials. Now, it's no secret that Thanos has something of an obsession with Death and given the character is likely to feature in Infinity War there is no better time for the character to be introduced than in Doctor Strange. RIght now, there has been no casting announcements for Death yet. Plus, when it was announced that Swinton was in line for a role in Doctor Strange the web was abuzz with rumours that she was to be cast as Death. While it's firmly established that Swinton will feature as the Ancient One, the ambiguity surrounding what gender she will be portraying offers the distinctly intriguing suggestion that the film-makers might avoid using Death as the central figure in Infinity Wars and using her as the object of Thanos' affection.
