Doctor Strange: 8 Things You Need To Know About The Ancient One
2. Could He Be Slayed By Strange?
Along with a certain adversary yet to be mentioned, Shuma-Gorath remains one of Doctor Strange's main nemeses. Back in the seventies, Marvel Premiere #10 saw this tentacled nasty inhabit the Ancient One's mind with only Strange standing in the way of this earthbound behemoth. During the struggle within the Ancient One's mind, Strange comes to the realisation that the only way to stop his enemy from crushing earth, is to put an end to his mentor. Once the deed is done, and Shuma-Gorath is sent scuttling back to where he came from, the Ancient One comes back to his grieving protege and delivers the good news: he is passing on the mantle of Sorceror Supreme, thus completing Strange's own journey. If next year's movie is the orgins tale we're all expecting, this pivotal moment in Strange lore could well be realised on the big screen. Plus, given the good money is on Tilda Swinton's seasoned sorcerer entering the afterlife in Derrickson's picture, this lends weight to the argument that the Ancient One could become Death (or a similarly immortal figure) in Infinity War.
