Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 Biggest MCU Implications
4. Wong Is The MCU Sorcerer Supreme
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Wong was revealed to be the Sorcerer Supreme as Strange had been 'dusted' in the wake of Thanos' snap. Stephen Strange has traditionally been the Sorcerer Supreme in the 616 comics and it was assumed that this will be the case eventually with Wong serving as an interim Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU.
Following the events of the Multiverse of Madness however, it appears that Wong's position is more permanent than initially expected.
This can be seen in his leadership of the defence of Kamar-Taj where the masters of the Hong Kong and London Sanctums bowed to his authority, and when training America Chavez in honing her powers.
One of the minor arcs in the movie was Stephen accepting Wong's authority as Sorcerer Supreme by bowing to him as per the ancient custom. It is clear that Stephen initially believed that this position was his, and Wong had lucked into the position by way of circumstance. As such, it was a significant moment when he finally bows to Wong at the end.
As such, Wong's tenure as the Sorcerer Supreme is here to stay with Stephen Strange accepting a role as the guardian of the New York Sanctum.
