Doctor Strange: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
5. Kaecilius
Marvel has a bit of a problem with making their villains the equals of their heroes: so far they've struggled to do so in the majority of their films, with only Loki and (to a lesser extent) Zemo really standing out as great additions. Everyone else has pretty much followed the same formula, mirroring the heroes and dying mostly without too much fanfare to advance their development by the end of a single film.
Unfortunately, Kaecilius is more of the same: he's a dark mirror image of Strange, following the usual "there but for the grace of God" mentality that most of the others seem to follow and he doesn't really have a great deal of scope to be memorable. Sure, he's powerful (equalling almost The Ancient One), but he's utterly disposable and he's just a vessel for another being.
He is elevated massively by the fact that he's Mads Mikkelsen though and the fact that he looks great, and if you're looking for someone to play Iago to Strange's Othello, it might as well be the brilliant Dane. It's just a shame he wasn't given more to play with.
