Doctor Who: 10 Actors That Should Guest Star In Series 9

8. Idris Elba

Speaking of actors who could bring a lot of additional viewers and would be a real box office name for a TV show€ Elba may be a bit of a long shot, to be fair (he€™s currently busy with more Luther), but even if he wasn€™t, he tends to be busy filming huge Hollywood movies anyway. Recently, he€™s been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Heimdall, with a further appearance mooted for Age of Ultron, and in Guillermo Del Toro€™s hit Pacific Rim. There was even Oscar buzz for his role as Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom, even if he didn€™t get the nomination. Furthermore, his name is routinely linked with Doctor Who every time the lead role becomes vacant (but then again, whose name isn't?). However, that he€™s still willing to return as Luther suggests that he€™s still willing to work with the BBC, which suggests that he might - just might - be up for a role in Doctor Who. Which would just be amazing, wouldn't it? After all, Elba is a phenomenal actor. He can put his hand to almost anything and would be electrifying bouncing off Capaldi and Coleman (not literally, of course, though stranger things have happened...). He€™d be a great villain, a great hero or a great at anything in between. His role as Heimdall shows he can do alien and he can also reveal the inmost depths of the human spirit. Whatever he played, it€™d be fantastic TV, the type of casting that would really get the pulses racing.
