Doctor Who: 5 Times The Time Lords Were Evil

2. Putting The Doctor On Trial - The Trial Of A Time Lord

In a series-long story arc, the Time Lords have once again caught up with The Doctor, putting him on trial for his meddling throughout the cosmos. However, this time he is faced with a prosecutor, known only as 'The Valeyard.'

It comes to light that The Valeyard is actually an amalgamation of the darker sides of The Doctor's personality, and the Time Lords have ensured that the defendant and the prosecutor are the same person! The evidence given in the trial has also been tampered with, revealed by The Master's interference within the Time Lords' Matrix. Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor sums up the Time Lords' evil well:

"In all my travelling throughout the universe I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here. The oldest civilisation: decadent, degenerate and rotten to the core. Power mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen, they're still in the nursery compared to us. Ten million years of absolute power. That's what it takes to be really corrupt."

Though Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor didn't have many truly great moments, this is at least one of them.
