Donald Sutherland: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
5 Awesome Performances
5. Klute - Klute (1971)
Klute isn't just a good detective crime thriller film, it's also one that features outstanding performances from both Donald Sutherland and Jane Fonda. The film centres around the suspected murder of business executive Tom Gruneman and the deceased's apparent penchant for prostitutes. As the titular detective and friend of Gruneman's family, Klute (Sutherland) is hired in an attempt to unravel the mystery, eventually coming into contact with Bree Daniels (Fonda) - a call girl who, Klute believes, knows who murdered his friend. Jane Fonda notably won an Oscar for her performance in the film, cited by critics as being one of the most flawless of her career. However, Sutherland didn't receive as much recognition as his co-star in the film, and while Fonda's role was undoubtedly the most deserving of recognition, Sutherland's Klute was just as worthy of praise. Aside from the believable chemistry both he and Fonda shared on-screen, Sutherland's performance was believable, absorbing and intriguing to watch as he unravelled one clue after the other. A great film in almost every way.
