Dream Casting Nic Cage's Tiger King Series

7. Kelcie 'Saff' Saffery - Natalia Reyes

Nic Cage Tiger King
Paramount Pictures

The role of Kelci 'Saff' Saffery, the bigender zoo employee who lost half an arm to a tiger, would be arguably the hardest character to cast, and potentially the most controversial. While Saff herself would be unlikely to care, the question over a male or female actor being cast in the role is one Hollywood producers would need to be sensitive about. For the purposes of this exercise we're choosing a female actor for the part, but unlike in the TV show, Saff's bi-gender identity will be made clear.

While she wasn't given much to do in the misfire that was Terminator Dark Fate, her lead performance in the outstanding Birds of Passage makes Natalia Reyes a strong choice for the role. Forget the overacting she was forced to produced in Dark Fate, the 33 year old Columbian with the youthful looks has shown herself adept at grounded, nuanced performances, and with a haircut would be ready to go as the loveable Saff.

If the producers were keen to be authentic to Saff's Hawaiian heritage, then youngster Auliʻi Cravalho would be another possible choice. It would be a definite change in direction for the actor, moving from voice work on Moana to this, but this could prove a perfect step up into the limelight for this on the 'rise' actor.
