Each Member Of The Fellowship Of The Ring Ranked Worst To Best
3. Aragorn
The ranger turned king is a phenomenal hero, his heroism and skills help him become one of the best protagonists in story-telling, and despite being a rather obvious leading man, Aragorn never feels cliched or lacking in character. His heritage, being a descendent of Beren and Luthien, means that he has some of the perfections of being an elf while still having human flaws.
Aragorn's humanity helps him to be a far more compelling character, as he makes mistakes but fights anyway. There is a rugged feel to Aragorn, and his transition from ranger to king feels natural and well-timed. Vigo Mortensen steals the show with this role, taking the future king and turning him into a complex, likeable and useful team member.
The moment that Aragorn turns down the ring from Frodo in the first film makes it clear that he is a cut above the rest, and rightfully deserves the throne of Gondor. His reluctance to claim it only makes him more compelling; all the best leaders are those that don't seek power.
