Each Member Of The Fellowship Of The Ring Ranked Worst To Best
2. Gandalf
The wise wizard is so instrumental to the fellowship that he is sent back from death to continue to fight, and this stands to show how irreplaceable he is. Ian McKellen's best role to date, Gandalf is the most crucial member of the fellowship outside of Frodo. He arguable forms the group, delivers a majority of the series most important decisions and consistently acts as the character that solves issues.
Again like Aragorn, the character is fascinating because he still makes mistakes, and is seen to have quite a temper. His fascination with the hobbits leads to their involvement in the plot, having the insight to see how important they could be and forming the best possible plan for destroying the ring - Including the eagles "plot hole" which is easily explained away.
Gandalf will forever be the pinnacle of the wizard character, he has elegance, grit and wisdom, without Gandalf nothing would have worked, and the age of Sauron would have engulfed Middle Earth.
