Z-Man Aside from being infamous as Roger Ebert€™s ill-fated foray into proper screen-writing, Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls also gets a reference in Wright€™s film in the character of Gideon Graves. Gideon€™s moniker of G-Man is a reference to a character in Russ Meyer€™s film, who is also a well-connected music producer, called Ronnie €˜Z-Man€™ Barzell, proving that O€™Malley, Wright and Wright€™s co-writer Michael Bacall also have a fine appreciation for the smuttier films in life. Of course, it could also be a reference to the G-Man from Half-Life , who operates in a similar role to Gideon as the main villain of the piece.
