Edgar Wright: The Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

The group eventually meet up in the Smokehouse before they set off again, attempting to find The Beast in an effort to get out of Newton Haven. However, their walk takes them through a wooded area where Pete encounters his childhood bully, played by Darren Boyd, who offers him a chance to join the Blanks. However, Peter refuses, beating down the robot before coming after his prone body with a nearby sapling. The sapling beating is a homage to classic comedy Fawlty Towers, where John Cleese€™s Basil Fawlty attacks his broken-down car with a similar-sized tree in frustration. However, Peter doesn't use the line 'a damn good thrashing,' as awesome as that would've been. Also, the joke takes on an even more meta turn when you realise that the man being beaten by the sapling once played Cleese in the BBC comedy Holy Flying Circus.
