Assemble! The 8 Best Moments In The Avengers

3. Loki And Natasha Interrogate Each Other

If there was ever a scene that I had to use to prove that comic book movies can be intelligent, this would be it. Even though there€™s a lot of humour and plenty of dry one-liners in the film, this scene is replete with incredibly emotive and intelligent dialogue. It also has a particularly Shakespearian feel to it. More specifically, Loki is reminiscent of Iago (The main character of Othello) as he turns people on each other by bringing their flaws and vulnerabilities to the surface much like Iago did with Othello. As well as the dialogue itself being excellent, this is a scene that just keeps on giving charater-wise as Natasha reveals that it was actually her who was manipulating Loki and not the other way round but later reveals that, despite this, Loki succeeded in thoroughly rattling Natasha. It€™s a victory for both characters in a way. Special mention has to go to Loki calling Natasha a mewling quim, which is basically a more archaic way of calling her a certain word beginning with C that I€™m not allowed to use on this website. It€™s a curiously effective way of showing both Loki€™s contempt for Natasha and how he uses emotive language to manipulate people as well as preying on their weaknesses. And it€™s nothing short of astounding that it got through the censors for inclusion in a film that not only has a 12 certificate but was also distributed by Disney, a company that censored Busted€™s Year 3000 when it was covered by the Jonas Brothers. http://youtu.be/SbIzDAS37VY
