Elizabeth Banks: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. Starla Grant - Slither

One of Banks€™ first leading roles was in Slither, where she plays the wife of a man who turns into a slimy space monster. This horror comedy was the directorial debut of James Gunn, who managed to infuse it with both likable characters and gross out horror. Starla at first appears to be the token love interest, only to become much more as the story evolves. She€™s vulnerable yet tough at same time, so when the zombies start attacking she€™s the first to pick up a gun, despite being terrified. It helps that she looks really cool firing a shotgun too. Banks must have been a real trooper during the making of it too; she€™s covered in slime, attacked by icky body worms and forced to make out with her transformed husband. She even manages to convincingly portray sympathy for the monster, even though he€™s just destroyed the entire town. It€™s rare to find actor who will give their all to a monster movie, so Banks' game performance is to be commended.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
