Elizabeth Banks In Talks For THE HUNGER GAMES
Would play Effie Trunket in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel.
Elizabeth Banks has entered talks to star in Gary Ross' adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel The Hunger Games, according to Variety. The story is set in a dystopian future in which a totalitarian government sits on what was once North America, and now controls the behaviour of those states through the distribution of food supplies. These states are then charged with sending a representative child between the age of 12 and 18 to battle to the death to feed their state. The book was marketed at late teenagers, but also achieved a loyal adult following throughout the trilogy. Banks would play Effie Trinket, described as 'the flighty bureaucrat who wrangles the young death-match contestants to their fates' for the annual fight to the death Hunger Games, that in this dystopian future is shown live on television. Her character is said to be memorable for her hair colour changing throughout the series, the first book she is described as wearing a pink wig. Banks joins Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and the newly announced, Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg in the PG-13 adaptation of the young adult, sci-fi novel. The Hunger Games, is set for release on March 23, 2012 and is Lionsgate's attempt at creating a 'Twilight' style franchise for teenagers. Effie's character description from Wikipedia is below...
Effie can be a bit of a airhead at times, totally oblivious to the sorrows and misfortunes that fall upon District 12. Shes very strict about manners and being proper, as that is the Capitols way. She is a classic Capitol resident with impeccable manners, getting overly distressed at seeing her wig being tilted on television, during the recaps. She is also a perfectionist and extremely punctual, complaining about how a five minute train delay would affect her tightly packed schedule.
