Ennio Morricone's 10 Greatest Film Soundtracks

1. Cinema Paradiso

Finally, we have a real classic of cinema; a love letter to the absorbing nature of the medium. Just about everything in this Italian production is committed to the art of the craft as we see the story of the Protti family play out within their local movie theatre in Mantua. We follow the changes in their lives, brought about by historical events as it's revealed just how much film meant to these people as the world changed around them.

The lavish production values and emotive performances were impressive enough, as was the sentimental feel of the film, but Ennio Morricone delivered his own contribution to the final product.

Working under director Giuseppe Tornatore, the composer delivered a moving and emotional collection of music, making use of a wide array of instruments and orchestration to deliver a score that brought many film lovers to tears upon watching Cinema Paradiso. It's perhaps the most beautiful creation from the composer, a soundtrack that seamlessly complements the Italian drama's exquisite blend of romance, history and the affinity of movies.
