Enola Holmes Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
6. The Witty, Hilarious Script
Jack Thorne's script effortlessly captures the witty clapback expected of any Holmes-adjacent story, delivering up a healthy helping of deliciously acid-tongued dialogue between its characters.
The smart wordplay does a fantastic job selling audiences on both this alternate iteration of the Holmes world and the character of Enola in particular, presenting her as driven and devilishly smart, yet never obnoxiously precocious to the point of irritation.
There are numerous genuine laugh-out-loud moments, many of them involving Enola becoming increasingly exasperated by those who stand in her way, but beyond the smart parlance there's also a wealth of heart, ensuring it never descends into a hollow quip-fest.
