Enola Holmes Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
4. The Superb Ensemble Cast
As much as Millie Bobby Brown dominates the film, she's nevertheless accompanied by a crackerjack supporting cast.
Most notable is Henry Cavill, who is perfectly cast here as the unbelievably dapper Sherlock. Though he's not in the movie as much as you might expect, he nails every scene he shows up for, and gets a few great scenes opposite his screen sis.
Sam Claflin is also spot-on as the more severe brother Mycroft, keen to exert control over Enola's life and ensure she adheres to the expected customs of the time.
Meanwhile Helena Bonham Carter sadly only appears for a glorified extended cameo, with her screen time being spread thinly across flashbacks for the most part, though she nevertheless brings the expected gravitas to the role of Enola's mother.
In the smaller supporting stakes, veteran character actress Fiona Shaw is also a lot of fun as Miss Harrison, the comically severe headmistress of the finishing school Mycroft wants to ship Enola off to.
All in all, the entire cast brings their A-game to the table, keeping things chugging along nicely enough for the most part.
