Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
3. The Occasionally Surreal Moments
There are fitful, periodic moments during this movie which suggest a weirder, more interesting, and best of all funnier film was possible.
Despite so much of the humour falling flat, there are individual scenes which tap into the barmy, surreal energy of Ferrell's better comedies, such as a recurring subplot in which Lars and Sigrit debate the existence of Elves, the payoff of which is spectacularly, hilariously bizarre.
The film desperately needed more of this rather than pandering to the lowest common denominator as it so often does, because were it more eager to get freaky, it at least might've been a tad more memorable - not to mention entertaining.
