Every 2016 Disney Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Doctor Strange

Rotten Tomatoes: 90%

Disney’s partnership with Marvel has proved quite the profitable move for the company, with most Marvel movies distributed by Disney performing brilliantly at the box office and four of those films surpassing $1 billion in profits. Doctor Strange wasn’t quite that successful, earning a comparatively modest $658 million, but the wave of praising reviews it got no doubt compensated for its slightly less impressive profit margin.

Benedict Cumberbatch ditches his posh Brit accent for a convincing American patois and gives a great performance as the titular doctor-turned-Sorcerer Supreme as does Tilda Swinton as his mentor the Ancient One, despite the furore around her being cast as a character that traditionally in the comics was a Tibetan male. What really makes Doctor Strange stand out in the myriad Marvel Universe, though, is its dazzlingly trippy visuals. Described by some reviewers as akin to an acid trip, it’s quite possibly the most aesthetically adventurous movie Marvel has ever produced.
