Every 2018 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best

9. I Kill Giants

Originally released in 2017 and based on the comic by Joe Kelly (one of the creators of Ben10 and a veteran comic book writer of both Marvel and DC fame), I Kill Giants is in a different lane to most of the other releases of the year.

It's an unexpected magic realism-infused indie, spurred on by a powerhouse performance by young star Madison Wolfe, who plays a teenager who loses herself to a fantasy world inspired by Dungeons & Dragons that she fears is seeping into her real world. Compelled to protect her world from the Giants crossing over, she builds weapons and defenses for the coming battle.

There's darkness and beauty in here and surprisingly great CGI for the comparatively inexpensive movie, but what really counts is the emotional weight beneath all of that.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
