Christopher Nolan once again proved why he's one of the most acclaimed big-budget filmmakers working today, by taking the typical war movie formula and cleverly reinventing it.

So blisteringly intense is Nolan's war epic that you'll be able to easily forgive the film's PG-13 rating and near-total lack of blood, as Nolan focuses more on suspenseful set-pieces and the oppressive obstacle that time presents to just about everyone involved.

Some may argue that it lacks a little in the character stakes, but Nolan's sprawling approach is itself ruthlessly efficient in conveying the horror of war. Once again it doesn't seem like this will be Nolan's year to win Best Director, but he'll get his time eventually.
